The News Current Events and Continuing Education for August 19, 2019 “Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.” -James Madison
"There are two distinct classes of men...those who pay taxes and those who receive and live upon taxes." - Thomas Paine C'mon! CtC can't be right! You're crazy! If CtC were actually right, it would mean the government's been concealing and denying the truth for years on end, and everybody knows THAT would never happen... (Edward Snowden, come home! It was all just a bad dream; there really is No Such Agency!)
Do you know someone truly steeped in the Kool-Aid?
I mean someone who finds it easier to believe that the far-better-educated, far-more-suspicious-of-government Americans of a hundred years ago were complete morons who granted authority to the state to take whatever it wished from themselves and their posterity than to imagine that they themselves simply misunderstand the true nature of the income tax? Even while knowing that their beliefs about the tax are derived entirely from the representations of those who profit from those beliefs (like tax bureaucrats and "tax professionals")?
Do you know someone like that? Shake them awake with the latest (fifteenth) edition of CtC!

*** -Samuel Adams Three Bits Of Pernicious Propaganda To Guard Against And Denounce Taking the varnish off "survivorship"; the "Latino" thing; and "Thank you for your service". "Survivors" THOUGH I HAVE LONG GRUMBLED QUIETLY about the increasingly widespread use of the term "survivor" in reference to someone who has experienced any damn thing they choose to view as traumatic, regardless of its actual significance, I have now come to view this language abuse in a more serious light. I don't know what prompted this modest epiphany-- something heard on NPR, I imagine, or maybe something thrown out by one of the Democratic presidential candidates. However prompted, here is the thought: If you are a Tutsi with both arms remaining (or even are just alive), despite having been in Rwanda while the Hutu majority was hacking your people up with machetes, you can call yourself a "survivor". If you were a victim of a serial rapist with a history of murdering his victims and you lived to tell the tale, you can call yourself a "survivor". Likewise, if you were in a party on a beach upon whom a cliff-face fell and you made it out alive, you can call yourself a "survivor". If you are a Yemeni schoolkid who walked away after your bus was bombed by Saudi Arabian-flown F-16s, or made it through a sanction-induced famine, a carpet-bombing of your home city or an over-crowded sea-crossing as a refugee from a military invasion, you can call yourself a "survivor". But if you are merely a #MeToo snowflake who experienced some unwanted flirtation, sexual advances, or even contact-- up to and including non-violent "assault", you are not a "survivor". Calling yourself one (or referring to someone else that way under the same circumstances), is despicable. CALLING YOURSELF (or someone else) a "survivor" for any event or circumstance less serious than the examples given above is to spit on the real trauma of real survivors. It is disgracefully self-absorbed and contemptuous of those real survivors. Further, calling yourself (or others) a "survivor" for self-defined "threats" to what you imagine to be your right to be spared any situation by which you are displeased raises the suspicion that your false equivalency is meant to excuse you from any moral obligations toward people in REAL peril, and those of them who end up as REAL survivors. In any event, your false equivalency inescapably degrades the relative stature of REAL survivors as deserving of society's attention and sympathy by falsely presenting yourself as just as deserving-- which I believe is part of the agenda of those pushing the "snowflake survivorship" concept. "Forget those Palestinians! Don't worry about the Yemeni schoolkids! Turn down the sound on the Iranians being ground into hamburger by lawless sanctions! Charity begins at home!!" Whether I'm right about that agenda or not, the false ascription of survivorship is despicable, and everyone guilty of this sin should hang her head in shame. "Hlatí:no" OKAY, IT'S A PRETTY CRUDE AND EXAGGERATED RENDERING of a fluent Spanish-speaker's pronunciation of "Latino". But at the same time, that's part of my point. Talking heads in the MSM (especially at NPR) and other bastions of in-your-face neo-liberalism have for years now made an annoying practice of pronouncing "Latino"-- even when just the next word in an English sentence-- as though they had been teleported to Barcelona for that half-second before returning to Los Angeles (or wherever) for the next word and the remainder of the sentence. I can't help but see this obnoxious affectation as part of a propagandistic agenda. One effect of this affectation is to suggest that it is somehow disrespectful to people of Latin-American heritage to just say the word with its English pronunciation. This, despite the English pronunciation having been the successful standard practice in these parts for the last five hundred years or so until just lately. Another effect is the suggestion that people of Latin-American heritage now in the USA are worthy of special respect and recognition for some reason. After all, these "Hlatí:no"-mouthers make no corresponding effort to pronounce "Russian" or "Croatian" the way a Russian or Croat would do so. Nor do we hear "Irish" ever said with an attempted Celtic accent, or "Iranian" as it would be properly-rendered in Farsi. In fact, we never hear ANY other such honor paid to ANY OTHER native-speaker's manner of pronouncing their chosen referent... A THIRD EFFECT of the special effort at pronouncing "Latino" as a native-Spanish-speaker would do so is to hang out there the implication that any failure to view the arrival in the USA of Latin-Americans-- whether legally or not-- as anything less than a treat ("Hey, happy days! More Hlatí:nos are here!") is crude, xenophobic and deplorable. In broader terms, the special pronunciation of "Latino" seems meant to distinguish and elevate the Latin-American culture which "Hlatí:nos" bring with them. This has the whiff of an attack on assimilation as a welcome-- and even vitally-important-- part of the immigration process. That attack on assimilation would serve to support the maintenance of a separate subculture within the larger American community-- a classic dis-unification ploy producing relative strength in the state and weakness in its unique competitor for power-- the People. WHETHER MY TAKE on the agenda driving this special treatment of the word "Latino" is correct or not, that special treatment IS indicative of an agenda of SOME kind. I advocate sharp scorn for anyone using the "Hlatí:no" pronunciation if the words preceding and following that one are not equally accented. (I also advise those deploying this cheap little bit theater-- which really should be viewed as grossly DIS-respectful, and even mocking, by every actual Latino, as can be seen by imagining these talking-heads rendering their entire sentences concerning Latin-Americans with Spanish accents-- that the practice is a big reason that much of the country views them as purveyors of "fake news". This practice is one of adding "spin" to a subject on which you are reporting, and "spun news" is fake news.) "Thank you for your service!" NO THANKS. FRANKLY, ANYONE WHO ASKS FOR or accepts this smarmy (and usually rote and insincere) expression is a manipulated naif. Anyone who offers it-- both in person or as an institutional tag, such as on product packaging or at the beginning of sporting contests, etc.-- is an exploiter trying to either borrow virtue for personal elevation of guilt-relief, or signal it for some commercial advantage. Let me explain. My Dad, now 8 years in the ground at Great Lakes National Cemetery, commanded a tank in Europe under George Patton during World War II. He was wounded in action and earned a Purple Heart, but thankfully, not disabled. The war in which Dad fought was a real war. It was not an invasion with overwhelming power, total air-superiority, and ground action consisting of the mop-up of largely disorganized and ill-equipped resistance efforts by a basically prostrate population of the conquered country. In Dad's war, "our guys" were evenly matched by "their guys". Every combat soldier boarded his troop transport knowing that his side might not win and that he might very well end up in an unmarked grave or a POW camp. In Dad's war, the US not only lacked air superiority, but there were times and places where it suffered air inferiority. Their tanks were better than our tanks. At sea, the enemy had just as many aircraft carriers and battleships as we did. For a combat soldier getting on a troop transport it was not a matter of chance whether "you" might be unlucky enough to be someone's target. Rather, EVERY SINGLE combat soldier was virtually guaranteed to be targeted with bullets, bombs and artillery shells. 407,300 American soldiers died in Dad's war. 671,801 were wounded, but survived (and could validly call themselves "survivors"...). All that over the course of three short years. Total military deaths among all combatant nations exceeded 20 million. An additional 48 to 58 million civilians died. I'M SURE YOU GET THE POINT: Dad's war was a horrific meat-grinder of constant violence and extreme peril. No one has ever experienced worse, and aside from Viet Nam and Korean War vets (both also intense conflicts), no US soldier has experienced anything remotely as terrifying, grueling, psychological-stress-inducing and brother-harvesting. Further, Dad's war was one in which the prospect of America and its allies losing the war was very real, especially early on. And yet, not once did Dad, or, to my knowledge, any other veteran of his war (and I have known a lot of them over the years) ever dream of being "thanked for his service". All of these brave men would have probably been insulted at the implication that they did what they did expecting gratitude, or should be offered it by anyone. Dad fought to defend his family, his freedom and his friends. Whatever the truth about the degree to which those things were threatened, Dad and his generation saw the threats as being dire, and queued up to take care of business. Afterwards, most of them not only had no interest in anyone else's gratitude, but in my experience weren't even inclined to speak of the war. Even a good friend of Dad's who was a writer, and who wrote several war-time novels, didn't talk about his own experiences in Europe. THE POINT IS THIS: "Thank you for your service" is not an expression that is fit for, or appreciated by, anyone actually deserving of thanks. Soldiers who put it on the line, whether in a meat-grinder like Dad's war or today's "forever war"-- in which death or injury is just as bad for the victim, even if the odds aren't nearly so-- don't do it for you, Mr. or Ms. Politician. And they don't do it for you, Frito-Lay. Nor do they do it for the NFL, or Major League Baseball, or some pc geek encountering a soldier in camo at the airport. Soldiers who put it on the line are doing it for themselves, their families, their freedom and their friends, because they really believe those things are in peril. Such soldiers neither want, need or even are entitled to anyone's thanks Soldiers who do NOT fight because they believe that their families, freedom and friends are in peril do so for the wrong reasons. They fight (which is to say, kill) just because some office-holder has pointed them like a pit-bull at one of his or her own favored targets of violence or coercion and said, "Attack!". Such tools not only shouldn't be thanked, but should be denounced. AND HERE'S THE THING: Everybody who gives it a moment's sober and mature consideration knows this "Thank you for your service" crap is a propaganda ploy, conjured up by those office-holders who want to sic pit-bulls on favored targets in service to their own interests and those of their clients and cronies. The "Thank you" thing is a chant, a drumbeat, signal-canceling noise. It is meant to keep young fools and their hostage families from thinking about the fact that really, there is no existential peril against which they will direct their Hellfire missiles. The drumbeat is meant to keep people from thinking about the fact that double-tapping, in order to get the first-responders as well as the original targets, is a heinous crime, as is firing on funerals, weddings, residences and so forth, even with the pretext that some "legitimate target" in an undeclared war is amongst the fatalities. The drumbeat is meant to keep people from thinking about the fact that despite the occasional FBI-setup sting of some young mentally-challenged Muslim now and then, "the enemy" has never actually shown up on our beaches with conquest in mind. The drumbeat is meant to keep people from thinking about the fact that all the $trillions spent on the war have merely enriched arms merchants and the politicians who vote them contracts, while having made no discernible change in the actual safety of American families and having diminished their prosperity. DON'T BE PART OF THIS national hypnosis project. Spare our beautiful young people from the illusions of national enthusiasm for war-making against other peoples who have never attacked us which encourage them to become part of such efforts. Deny the war-mongering political class and its clients and cronies the fig-leaves of apparent public support for their crimes. I and many, many others will thank YOU for THAT service. P.S. For the record, I enlisted in the US Army as a gung-ho seventeen-year-old, during the Viet Nam war, on a deferred enlistment program. During the deferment period, while I was finishing High School, rotation of troops into Viet Nam ended. Further, the contract I had secured with my enlistment-- a special combined Basic Training and Advanced Infantry Training geared toward the Ranger program-- was broken by the Army (in what was doubtless just a SNAFU-- many were affected by the glitch). As a result of both changes in the landscape, when I and the several others in my unit similarly affected by that SNAFU were offered a choice of new contracts or Honorable Discharges shortly after finishing standard-issue Basic and starting standard-issue AIT, I chose the latter option. The point is, I know what it's like to be a thoughtless young fool overcome by jingoistic drumbeats, and nothing I say above is meant to criticize anyone who has lately done what I did myself back in the day. What I have said here is said from the perspective of one who has "been there" and simply has been lucky enough to have the time to learn better. It is in light of that perspective that I again urge everyone to spare today's young people the hypnotics by not playing along with the warfare state's "Thank you for your service" bs. Better still, denounce it wherever it is encountered. CARE TO COMMENT on this article? Click here. Set a brushfire-- E-mail this newsletter to a friend

Regarding Trolleries (Deceitful efforts to discourage Americans from learning the truth about the "income tax")
FOR ALL THE YEARS SINCE 2003 when CtC was first published, the government has engaged in a concerted effort to frighten people away from its truths. This effort involves official government websites and press releases touting an occasional court ruling that appears to be at odds with some CtC-revelation (but without details sufficient to expose the real substance of the ruling)-- and sometimes even more mendacious behavior. Are You Having Trouble Spreading The Word?? SKEPTICISM (SOMETIMES INVOKED BY FEAR) IS TO BE EXPECTED when you're trying to explain to someone that everything they've been encouraged their whole lives to believe about something as entrenched and significant as the income tax is basically nonsense. So here's a way to help cut through the resistance: Ask your listener how he or she would react if you were to show an announcement from the Commissioner of Internal Revenue admitting that the tax doesn't apply to the earnings of most Americans and is misapplied most of the time because people don't understand how it works? Or how about if you showed a ruling from the Supreme Court saying the same? Now you just have to explain that you're going to show exactly those things-- but because the state really doesn't want people to know this, these things haven't been said quite as forthrightly as we would all wish. It's going to take a bit more work to take these admissions in than is sufficient for just reading a press release. But it'll be worth the effort... *****

***** About The Author Pete Hendrickson is possibly the most effective lawyer in history, even while never having set foot in a law school, nor ever being a card-carrying member of "the bar". He is the first American in history to secure a complete refund of Social Security and Medicare ‘contributions’ withheld from his earnings (along with all other property taken for federal taxes); further, since 2003 students of his legal analyses and arguments in ‘Cracking the Code- The Fascinating Truth About Taxation In America’’ (CtC), and its sequel, 'Was Grandpa Really a Moron?' have been routinely retaining and recovering billions of dollars which otherwise-- wrongly, but as a matter of course-- would have gone to federal or state government treasuries. This despite concerted efforts by government to suppress his work, and in some cases vigorously oppose the claims by his students. Hendrickson is also a widely-read essayist on matters of politics, public policy and law; many of these works are collected in his second book, ‘Upholding the Law And Other Observations’. He is a member of Mensa; an award-winning artist; and has paid his dues as a youth soccer coach. He is a long-time political activist as well, and has served as co-chair and platform convention delegate of Michigan’s largest county Libertarian Party organization; as a consultant to the National Right to Work Foundation and Citizens for a Sound Economy; as a member of the Heartland Institute; and as a member of the International Society for Individual Liberty. He is a frequent radio-show guest on stations across the country. Hendrickson's business career has included nearly a decade-and-a-half at the leading edge of the renewable-energy industry, both as Director of Purchasing and Materials Management and member of the R&D board at Starpak Energy Systems, the mid-west's then-largest solar heating and energy-recovery-and re-utilization company; and as founder and president of AFJ Inc., a high-efficiency lighting design, manufacture and installation firm. Beginning in the mid-1990s and continuing for the twelve years before his present full-time focus on the restoration of the rule of law in America, Hendrickson directed purchasing activities for the $84 million-a-year multi-family-housing division of the Farmington Hills, Michigan branch of Edward Rose and Sons, with responsibility for 18,000+ apartments, direct supervision of 35 technicians and agents, and incidental authority over several hundred divisional workers. He also ran the division's 10 cable television earth-station and distribution systems in four states, and designed and administered the company's website. On rather the other end of the spectrum, amidst these more mundane pursuits Hendrickson co-founded and was the primary creative force behind a small board- and card-game company that enjoyed a modest success for several years. Hendrickson makes his home in southeast Michigan, with his wife and two children. He is currently working on his next book. © All written and graphic material on this page and website are copyrighted by Peter E. Hendrickson, unless otherwise attributed. |
