(Regarding the diversion of Mike's refund: Mike had filed a Schiff-style "zero" return for 1998, gone to tax court after the IRS refused to accept that return, and, unsurprisingly, lost (although Mike did win a key point on the legal insufficiency of unsigned "substitute for return" documents, causing the court to throw out certain IRS-computed penalties).
