The Infantilization Of The American People A slave is one who waits for someone to come and free him. -Ezra Pound "Oh my gosh! This is terrible! Why doesn't somebody DO something?!" Good question... except for the "somebody" part. Unfortunately, that "somebody" part is an all-too-common reflexive inclusion in expressions of dismay and concern by modern American men and women in regard to bad-- and even appalling and unforgivable-- behavior by the United States. Even when not said in so many words, the "somebody" is nonetheless present whenever, "This is terrible!" is not followed by, "I'm going to do something about this!" Such expressions are meant to repudiate and denounce the state's actions while deflecting personal responsibility and any moral duty to act in regard to the evil acts onto a nameless "other". Unless made entirely for crass and hypocritical virtue-signaling purposes, these expressions reflect an infantile superstition that simply feeling bad about something and saying so amounts to positive remedial action. The follow-on to the first dodgy expression is this, more-or-less: "I've told everyone within earshot that I disapprove! I even wrote a letter to my congressman!! What else can I do?" The cold translation reads: "I cried and I cried! What else can I do?" WELL, LET'S SET THE STAGE A BIT, and then look at the matter in the light thus shed. Let's put in place a few examples of the "bad behavior" to which Americans have cause to react, whatever may be the forms of those reactions. How do you feel about the killing of new-born or able-to-be-born children (whether at full term or before) because the mother isn't interested in dealing with them and can't be bothered to put them up for adoption? How do you feel about the violence creating widows and orphans in Yemen and Gaza and Afghanistan and Syria and Ukraine and Niger and Venezuela and Iraq? How did you feel about the products and processes that killed 500,000 children with cholera and dysentery in Iraq during the 1990s? Did you feel it was "worth it" as Madeline Albright said? How do you feel about the implementation of "Common Core" curricula throughout the country, by which the vast majority of American children will be fed state-worship Kool-Aid and poor-quality academics, with an emphasis against logic, history, economics and independent-thinking skills? How do you feel about 24/7 recording of all your phone and online communications, to be poked through now and stored for later scrutiny and nugget-sifting if ever that seems useful to someone in government? How do you feel about the same data accumulation on current office-holders and media moguls being poked through by people here with agendas of their own (remember J. Edgar Hoover?) and also turned over to a foreign government to be used for its own purposes-- a government that has somehow (go figure!) managed to persuade those surveilled American officials to send it $billions of your money year after year? How do you feel about bailing out cratering-but-well-connected banks and Wall Street behemoths? Etc., etc., etc.. Do any or all of those things make your skin crawl and your hackles rise? Are any or all of them what you decry, saying, "Oh my gosh! This is terrible! Why doesn't somebody DO something?!" WELL, GUESS WHAT? If you're not CtC-educated and -activated, YOU are paying to have all those terrible things happen. You're not the only one, but you're definitely one of them, meaning you're a "somebody" who can DO something (by stopping doing something). In fact, you're the only "somebody" whose response to your distress is within your control. So, let's drill down on what's really going on with that distress. Is your "Why doesn't somebody DO something?!" a cry for someone to give you permission to stop paying for all those terrible things? That is (follow closely here), are you crying to the folks who want you to pay for all those things-- and have told you that you must-- to change their tune and tell you that now you don't have to? That is... (follow very closely here), are you imagining that you are relieved of moral responsibility for all those terrible things because somebody else hasn't given you permission to stop supporting them? Do you believe, in short, that your moral agency has become the property of the collective (or the state, or the hive, or whatever)? How convenient and comforting a fantasy... But how thoroughly a fantasy! It is the infantile fantasy of a slave mentality, and a Devil's Bargain, which subordinates decision-making to evil actors in exchange for relief from the anxieties of moral responsibility. Pretty pathetic. And pointless, too. Moral responsibility cannot be handed off in this manner. The actor remains responsible for every act, and simply compounds sinful acts by attempting the, "I was just following orders" dodge. OKAY, THAT WAS THE COLD, HARSH WAKE-UP CALL. Here is the happier part. Despite the undermining efforts of misfits like Hamilton and a few others, the on-the-whole staggeringly brilliant Founders anticipated the insidious threat of the Devil's Bargain. The Founders understood the hard and hazardous choice which WOULD be faced by every American IF he or she was actually dependent on the permission of any state official as to whether to pay for every evil thing that got that official's motor running. The Founders understood that politics attracts and rewards the most venal people. They knew, as Tolstoy observed, "In order to get power and retain it, it is necessary to love power; but love of power is not connected with goodness but with qualities that are the opposite of goodness, such as pride, cunning and cruelty." Knowing these things, and having set their task as that of liberating humankind (or at least, their political and intellectual heirs) from the tyranny of slavish superstitions and the moral corrosion that inevitably results when the people are subordinated to the state, the Founders organized the powers of the state they created so as to eliminate the Devil's Bargain. They provided that no one could be compelled to finance a great and monstrous state. As explained here in more detail: [U]nder the unique rules controlling its taxing powers, the federal government is given a means by which an unlimited amount of wealth can be commandeered at the sole discretion of Congress and the President-- but only by a politically-challenging, largely self-regulating mechanism. This is "direct" taxation. At the same time, the federal government is permitted to allege and seek to enforce individual, personal liabilities, but only in regard to gains from the purely elective exercise of federally-granted privileges. This is "indirect" taxation. Because the population of a state in the aggregate will ultimately pay all direct tax levies, an explicit incentive exists for residents of the state to pressure its congressional delegation to keep direct taxes low. Further, because apportionment (the mechanism by which liabilities among the states are distributed) lays the burden for a tax upon a state based on its proportion of the national population, not its proportion of the national wealth, the overall per capita burden of any direct tax cannot exceed whatever the poorest state is able to pay, again forcing direct taxes to remain low. On the other hand, indirect taxes cannot be collected unless individuals have chosen to engage in government-privileged economic activities rather than common economic activities engaged in by right. Thus, every individual is entirely in control of how much, if anything, he or she will pay the government in indirect taxes, such as the "income tax". Because every individual naturally seeks to optimize the gains from all effort, individuals will keep privileged economic activity at a minimum, unless the rates of tax are kept so low that the overall net gains from privileged activities exceed those that can be had through unprivileged economic activity, even with the additional burden of the tax factored in as a cost. Either way, the power accruing to the government through the capture of indirect tax revenues is kept small. Putting the two varieties of tax together, Congress has a deep and broad authority to tax. At the same time, the rules under which Congress is exclusively allowed to exercise this authority impose extremely powerful, diffuse, wide-reaching and self-activating constraints on how much power its exercise puts into the hands of those in public office. The only thing the Founders left to the rest of us in regard to the hazard of the Devil's Bargain was the effort to know the law and to have the rocks to uphold it, even in the face of vigorous efforts by venal state actors to make us misunderstand the law or fearful of rising on its behalf. THE FOUNDER'S DIDN'T BEQUEATH US the condition of slavery. Let's not dishonor their efforts and their sacrifices by imposing it upon ourselves through sloth, ignorance, timidity or the embrace of comforting but infantile fantasies. We DO live in a time in which we are all subjected to powerful incentives to embrace the Devil's Bargain. These are the efforts of a state which has been foolishly allowed to grow dangerously large and arrogant over the last several decades. It is our true moral duty to resist these pressures, so I'll close these comments with a few words from others that might help inspire the best in all of us. More, and of special importance, these good words might inspire those of you who aren't yet to get CtC-educated and activated: The preservation of a free government requires, not merely that the metes and bounds which separate each department of power be invariably maintained, but more especially that neither of them be suffered to overleap the great barrier which defends the rights of the people. The rulers who are guilty of such encroachment exceed the commission from which they derive their authority, and are TYRANTS. The people who submit to it are governed by laws made neither by themselves nor by an authority derived from them and are slaves… -James Madison

Here is Tony's latest: a February, 2019 IRS surrender after some growling and whining by the agency trying to suggest Tony owed it some money in connection with his earnings during 2016. This story begins with Tony's routine filing for 2016, by which he rebutted an errant information return and declared himself to have done nothing taxable during that year. For some reason, an IRS that really should know better than argue with this man by now chose to do so, nearly two years after the filing:
Tony wasn't having any. He fired off this tart and cogent response to the nonsense. Rocked back on its heels, the IRS eventually said it needed some time to "process all [Tony's] information". Then, when its cogitations were complete, the agency brought forth its white flag:

Media Evasion Of CtC Must End, Now Time, unfortunately, is on the side of the well-funded disinformation specialists class
Are You Having Trouble Spreading The Word?? SKEPTICISM (SOMETIMES INVOKED BY FEAR) IS TO BE EXPECTED when you're trying to explain to someone that everything they've been encouraged their whole lives to believe about something as entrenched and significant as the income tax is basically nonsense. So here's a way to help cut through the resistance: Ask your listener how he or she would react if you were to show an announcement from the Commissioner of Internal Revenue admitting that the tax doesn't apply to the earnings of most Americans and is misapplied most of the time because people don't understand how it works? Or how about if you showed a ruling from the Supreme Court saying the same? Now you just have to explain that you're going to show exactly those things-- but because the state really doesn't want people to know this, these things haven't been said quite as forthrightly as we would all wish. It's going to take a bit more work to take these admissions in than is sufficient for just reading a press release. But it'll be worth the effort... *****

He is the first American in history to secure a complete refund of Social Security and Medicare ‘contributions’ withheld from his earnings (along with all other property taken for federal taxes); further, since 2003 students of his legal analyses and arguments in ‘Cracking the Code- The Fascinating Truth About Taxation In America’’ (CtC), and its sequel, 'Was Grandpa Really a Moron?' have been routinely retaining and recovering billions of dollars which otherwise-- wrongly, but as a matter of course-- would have gone to federal or state government treasuries. This despite concerted efforts by government to suppress his work, and in some cases vigorously oppose the claims by his students. Hendrickson is also a widely-read essayist on matters of politics, public policy and law; many of these works are collected in his second book, ‘Upholding the Law And Other Observations’. He is a member of Mensa; an award-winning artist; and has paid his dues as a youth soccer coach. He is a long-time political activist as well, and has served as co-chair and platform convention delegate of Michigan’s largest county Libertarian Party organization; as a consultant to the National Right to Work Foundation and Citizens for a Sound Economy; as a member of the Heartland Institute; and as a member of the International Society for Individual Liberty. He is a frequent radio-show guest on stations across the country. Hendrickson's business career has included nearly a decade-and-a-half at the leading edge of the renewable-energy industry, both as Director of Purchasing and Materials Management and member of the R&D board at Starpak Energy Systems, the mid-west's then-largest solar heating and energy-recovery-and re-utilization company; and as founder and president of AFJ Inc., a high-efficiency lighting design, manufacture and installation firm. Beginning in the mid-1990s and continuing for the twelve years before his present full-time focus on the restoration of the rule of law in America, Hendrickson directed purchasing activities for the $84 million-a-year multi-family-housing division of the Farmington Hills, Michigan branch of Edward Rose and Sons, with responsibility for 18,000+ apartments, direct supervision of 35 technicians and agents, and incidental authority over several hundred divisional workers. He also ran the division's 10 cable television earth-station and distribution systems in four states, and designed and administered the company's website. On rather the other end of the spectrum, amidst these more mundane pursuits Hendrickson co-founded and was the primary creative force behind a small board- and card-game company that enjoyed a modest success for several years. Hendrickson makes his home in southeast Michigan, with his wife and two children.
