So, Yesterday Was "Declaration Day"

DECLARATION DAY. That is,

• "NO MORE, "I DON'T DARE..." Day"

• "NO MORE, "THE BAD MEN WILL NOTICE ME SO I'D BETTER NOT!" Day"

• "NO MORE, "I'LL WAIT FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO GO FIRST..." Day"

In short, here we are at,

• "GET OFF YOUR ASS Day"

• "GET LOUD AND PROUD AND UN-COWED Day"

I'm talking about,

• "DON'T STOP 'TIL YOU'VE GOT LIBERTY AND THE RULE OF LAW Day"

• "NO TIME TO RELAX Day"...

More than anything, we've just had "PUT ASIDE DELUSIONS Day" That's what the original "Declaration day" was all about. It was the day the American colonists finally acknowledged that the people they had been entreating to respect their rights actually didn't want them to have their rights.

It was the day the American colonists finally acknowledged that the government operatives they had been petitioning and politicking and lobbying and arguing with weren't misled or mistaken or suffering from misunderstanding, needing only to have things explained a bit better, or argued a bit more authoritatively. Instead, as the colonists realized and finally admitted by way of the Declaration, those operatives were their competitors. Those operatives were the colonists' opponents. Efforts to persuade them were pointless-- they admitted to no limits on their power and had no interest in curbing its abuse, which was being practiced for their benefit.

IT WAS HARD for the colonists to reach that epiphany about their government. Because states exercise power (and partly also because they maintain an elaborate apologia dedicated to justifying that exercise as being for the good of the citizenry, or at least the way things must or are supposed to be), they come to be viewed as virtual parents in the hind-brains of those subject to that power. It is very hard for people to recognize and acknowledge that actual Mom and Dad are bad people. It is nearly as hard for people to recognize that the state under the influence of which they have been raised is corrupt and malicious.

But of course, sometimes Mom and Dad are indeed bad, and states usually are. And while Mom and Dad can and often do become remorseful, and proceed to reform and redemption, states are institutionally-incapable of remorse. The only remedy against a bad state is taking away its power. Eventually, after wasting all that time and effort on petitioning, politicking, lobbying and arguing, the American colonists admitted this truth on Declaration Day and said, "No more talking-- it's time for walking!"

Bless them for abandoning their child-like view of the state and becoming grown-ups at last.

IT REMAINS TO BE SEEN if we modern Americans are equally deserving of blessings. We should be up to the task; after all, we have a much easier row to hoe than the colonists did.

While we, too, must adopt a grown-up understanding of the true character of the dangerous servant against which we have been wisely warned, our state is already bound down by the written law, thanks to the blood and sacrifices of our ancestors. All we have to do is recognize that the state is constantly struggling to escape any limitations placed upon it by that law, and to suppress and marginalize anyone revealing its bad behavior and anything showing how it can be put back into its chains.

Particularly, we have to recognize that the biggest and most important limitation put upon the state concerns its ability to take resources from individual citizens for its own use. It's this simple-- the one who controls the disposition of property is the one in charge.

Because it is so important, for decades the United States has been engaged in the cultivation and exploitation of myths about what limitations are placed upon it in regard to resource acquisition. Sadly, for most of those decades most Americans have fallen for the fictions.

Chief among these state-serving, people-harming myths is the truly absurd proposition that our grandparents amended the Constitution in 1913 to authorize the state's exploitation of their resources at its will, in defiance and rejection of the previous tax-limiting Constitutional rules under which the American people had become the freest and most prosperous in the history of the world.

THIS IS A MYTH! It never happened, and even the premier organs of the state itself have said so endlessly-- but quietly, so as to preserve the on-the-books harmony of the law while allowing the state (and its clients and cronies) to ruthlessly exploit anyone who doesn't know to look and remains in ignorance.

After you take these two enlightening little excursions, recognize that every single person or institution that would lose prestige, power or profits by acknowledging the truth about the tax can be expected to lie about the subject if queried, as will every interest that sees itself benefitting from the existence of a mammoth state (which might even include those who make their living complaining about the mammoth state, or the supposed evils of the income tax). Every one of these are today's equivalents of the invested promoters and defenders of the "divine right of kings" myth that kept people enthralled and exploited in the colonists' time.

But also recognize that now knowing the truth, the power is in your hands. The responsibility is, too.

Rise to deserve the blessings of posterity.

Make this year's "Declaration Day" real by making it-- retroactively, if necessary-- a personal Declaration Day-- a day of resolution to act on behalf of liberty and the rule of law.

SCOTT (CREATOR OF THE "HOW YOU BECOME LIABLE..." QUIZ) JUST SECURED a refund for 2018, with penalty and interest abatement, plus interest paid to Scott, by way of an amended federal return with which he corrected the omission in his original filing of a 1099 rebuttal:

(BTW, Scott's was the first educational tax-truth quiz to appear on the internet-- many years ago, soon after CtC was first published. It was so well-conceived a notion that it inspired me to follow on with a series of additional illuminating quizzes, which you can find here.)

Adam ONeill

IN ADDITION TO THE fine video Adam shared a few days ago (above), he has also just shared a February victory reclaiming everything withheld from him and given over to the feds during 2018:

Here is the filing that produced this victory. As can be seen in the CP49, the better part of the entire $6,011.95 overpayment acknowledged by the IRS was devoted to retirement of an allegedly-outstanding liability from 2016. Nonetheless, the agency has agreed that Adam had no tax liability for 2018, and was entitled to the return of everything withheld from his earnings. Further, the diversion of a portion of the refund-- done pursuant to 26 U.S.C. § 6402(a)-- was to Adam's benefit.

All told, this is a solid victory, even though Adam only ended up with a portion of the withheld money back in his pocket.

Timothy Bell

TIMOTHY SHARES a federal victory-- issued the same day as Scott Olmsted's and, also like Scott's, with interest-- but with the bulk of the refunded money diverted to an allegedly-outstanding liability, as in Adam's case, above:

The IRS also expressly acknowledged that Timothy had done nothing taxable in 2016, and owed no tax for that year:

And all of this was done after a lame IRS attempt to pretend that Timothy's filing had not substantiated the amounts withheld from him (and by implication, that it had not received documentation of those withholdings from the company that paid Timothy and withheld the money) of the sort discussed here.

So, you'd think all this was a nice, particularly-emphatic victory, right? Well, it is that, but...

Despite its admissions of no taxable activity conducted, and no tax owed, the IRS has obnoxiously subjected Timothy to one of its occasional efforts to illegally hang on to what was withheld as FICA taxes. This, even while admitting that Timothy did nothing upon which such taxes can arise (since the admission that Timothy had received no Chapter 24 "wages" and thus was entitled to the return of the $2,844.54 withheld under the terms of that chapter is also an admission that he received no Chapter 21 "wages"), and even though expressly required by law to return those withholdings under these circumstances.

As seen in Timothy's filing, the actual amount withheld and due back is $7,239.70 (plus interest). As seen on the excerpted portion of page 2 of the CP16 Timothy received, the IRS is simply lying about this. Timothy has begun considering his options for addressing this agency corruption, and we wish him justice.

Random Comments On The Current Madness

You can't throw a stone blindfolded anymore without hitting five things that richly deserve it...

A RECENT EDITION of the Detroit News contained the assertion by John E. Johnson Jr., the interim Executive Director of Michigan's Department of Civil Rights, that "COVID-19 had a disparate impact on people of color." Johnson even goes so far as to say that "no one disputes that" ridiculous assertion.

As can be gathered, I dispute that "disparate impact" absurdity.

Here's the simple rebuttal: Absent biological evidence to the contrary (of which none is on offer), there is no basis for saying that people of color are inherently more susceptible to illness and bad outcomes from the COVID-19 virus. What IS true, however, is that fat people, and smokers, and people who have compromised their respiratory and cardio health in other ways, are more susceptible to illness and bad outcomes from the COVID-19 virus.

Similarly, people more inclined to compromise their immune systems by embrace of the insane "masking" and "social distancing" advice from what every grown-up should long-since have recognized as fundamentally agenda-driven and corrupt voices in the MSM and government officialdom are consequently more likely to suffer dire outcomes from infection.

That a disparate percentage of people of color might be compromised in these ways is very possible-- but that's on them. The disparate outcomes from the prevalence of these complicating factors are not related in any way whatever to the color of skin. These disparate outcomes are, rather, related to the content of character.

A MAN WAS CROWNED 'MISS NEVADA' last week, in another prostration of America at the feet of militant "transgender" delusion-boosters. The rationale appears to be that the superficial appearance of being a woman is sufficient qualification.

In light of the new standards, I think the next beauty pageant should include entrants who are simply drag queens, or even, maybe, animatronic women built to look the part and programmed to view themselves as women. Both look the part, and both are just as much women as the fellow given the Miss Nevada crown.

Or, hey, let's go right to the heart of the neuroses. Let's invite to the competition that psycho in 'Silence of the Lambs'. You remember. The guy who was sewing pieces of skin together to make himself a "woman-suit". Like other "transwomen", he felt that his "true" gender was female; he just had a different approach to making it "real" than "Miss" Nevada.

MORE IN THE "TRANSGENDER" LUNACY category: Real female athletes will be made to compete against men in the Olympic games later this month-- delusional men, granted, but physical men, nonetheless. Unless the real women all refuse, and boycott the games, of course, as they should.

Real women should boycott as a matter of principle (both as athletes and as fans). The athletes should do so also because otherwise they will compete in grossly unfair pretend contests with largely foregone conclusions.

Just to put the issue in perspective, let me remind everyone of the handy defeat of the much-feted and relatively very powerful World-Cup-winning US Women's Soccer team by 14-year-old boys in 2017.

Men and women are different. It's a fact. And everyone knows it, whether they admit it or not.

Consider this: Boys and men pretending to be girls and women have been muscling their way into female athletic competitions everywhere they can (and stealing victories, trophies, and benefits from real girls and women). But nowhere do we see girls and women who now pretend to be boys and men trying to compete in male athletics...

Not Letting This "Crisis" Go To Waste...

...an important action item opportunity.

FRIENDS, THE SPORADIC BITS OF EASING of the despotic measures to which most of the country has been subjected this year should not be allowed to bleed off the head of steam you probably had been developing. The offenses happened, and they're far from over. Stay hot.

And while you are all warmed up, and while others, if they're smart, are just as hot, I'd like you to send an email (and Facebook post, or whatever) with the following content to everyone you can (with a request that they pass it along, in turn):

[Name], over the last several months you've watched as over-fed state power has been used to literally destroy classical Western civilization and impose a new despotic paradigm. No dissent or debate permitted-- no permission or agreement sought.

YOU KNOW where this will end up if the arrogant state power being used to make this happen isn't radically diminished in size, influence, resources and popular support, and exposed as an opportunistic exploiter of legal ignorance (an ignorance which it has been nurturing in the average mind for decades).

Those things having not yet happened, you should be quaking in your boots-- and you probably are.

Isn't it time-- and past time-- for you to begin helping to make those desperately-needed defensive changes take place? There is only one way these things can happen short of a who-knows-what we'll-end-up-with explosion of violence. I'm going to show it to you.

Regarding Trolleries

(Deceitful efforts to discourage Americans from learning the truth about the "income tax")

FOR ALL THE YEARS SINCE 2003 when CtC was first published, the government has engaged in a concerted effort to frighten people away from its truths. This effort involves official government websites and press releases touting an occasional court ruling that appears to be at odds with some CtC-revelation (but without details sufficient to expose the real substance of the ruling)-- and sometimes even more mendacious behavior.

Tim Kendrick has posted a video on YouTube regarding donations. I didn't know what to do about it to begin with; I don't do what I do intending for anyone to feel obligated in any way.

Are You Having Trouble Spreading The Word?

SKEPTICISM (SOMETIMES INVOKED BY FEAR) IS TO BE EXPECTED when you're trying to explain to someone that everything they've been encouraged their whole lives to believe about something as entrenched and significant as the income tax is basically nonsense. So here's a way to help cut through the resistance:

Ask your listener how he or she would react if you were to show an announcement from the Commissioner of Internal Revenue admitting that the tax doesn't apply to the earnings of most Americans and is misapplied most of the time because people don't understand how it works? Or how about if you showed a ruling from the Supreme Court saying the same?

Now you just have to explain that you're going to show exactly those things-- but because the state really doesn't want people to know this, these things haven't been said quite as forthrightly as we would all wish. It's going to take a bit more work to take these admissions in than is sufficient for just reading a press release. But it'll be worth the effort...

The 'Conspiracy Theory' Charade

How government and media use the phrase to suppress opposition.

Biden’s “National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism” report last week declared that “enhancing faith in American democracy” requires “finding ways to counter the influence and impact of dangerous conspiracy theories.” In recent decades, conspiracy theories have multiplied almost as fast as government lies and cover-ups. While many allegations have been ludicrously far-fetched, the political establishment and media routinely attach the “conspiracy theory” label to any challenge to their dominance.

According to Cass Sunstein, Harvard Law professor and Obama’s regulatory czar, a conspiracy theory is “an effort to explain some event or practice by reference to the machinations of powerful people, who have also managed to conceal their role.” Reasonable citizens are supposed to presume that government creates trillions of pages of new secrets each year for their own good, not to hide anything from the public.

In the early 1960s, conspiracy theories were practically a non-issue because 75 percent of Americans trusted the federal government. Such credulity did not survive the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Seven days after Kennedy was shot on November 22, 1963, President Lyndon Johnson created a commission (later known as the Warren Commission) to suppress controversy about the killing. Johnson and FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover browbeat the commission members into speedily issuing a report rubberstamping the “crazed lone gunman” version of the assassination. House Minority Leader Gerald Ford, a member of the commission, revised the final staff report to change the location of where the bullet entered Kennedy’s body, thereby salvaging Hoover’s so-called “magic bullet” theory. After the Warren Commission findings were ridiculed as a whitewash, Johnson ordered the FBI to conduct wiretaps on the report’s critics. To protect the official story, the commission sealed key records for 75 years. Truth would out only after all the people involved in any coverup had gotten their pensions and died.

The controversy surrounding the Warren Commission spurred the CIA to formally attack the notion of conspiracy theories. In a 1967 alert to its overseas stations and bases, the CIA declared that the fact that almost half of Americans did not believe Oswald acted alone “is a matter of concern to the U.S. government, including our organization” and endangers “the whole reputation of the American government.” The memo instructed recipients to “employ propaganda assets” and exploit “friendly elite contacts (especially politicians and editors), pointing out… parts of the conspiracy talk appear to be deliberately generated by Communist propagandists.” The ultimate proof of the government’s innocence: “Conspiracy on the large scale often suggested would be impossible to conceal in the United States.”

However, the CIA did conceal a wide range of assassinations and foreign coups it conducted until congressional investigations in the mid-1970s blew the whistle. The New York Times, which exposed the CIA memo in 1977, noted that the CIA “mustered its propaganda machinery to support an issue of far more concern to Americans, and to the C.I.A. itself, than to citizens of other countries.” According to historian Lance deHaven-Smith, author of Conspiracy Theory in America,, “The CIA’s campaign to popularize the term ‘conspiracy theory’ and make conspiracy belief a target of ridicule and hostility must be credited…with being one of the most successful propaganda initiatives of all time.” (In 2014, the CIA released a heavily-redacted report admitting that it had been “complicit” in a JFK “cover-up” by withholding “incendiary” information from the Warren Commission.)

The Johnson administration also sought to portray critics of its Vietnam War policies as conspiracy nuts, at least when they were not portraying them as communist stooges. During 1968 Senate hearings on the Gulf of Tonkin incident, Defense Secretary Robert McNamara denounced the “monstrous insinuations” that the U.S. had sought to provoke a North Vietnamese attack and declared that it is “inconceivable that anyone even remotely familiar with our society and system of government could suspect the existence of a conspiracy” to take the nation to war on false pretenses. Three years later, the disclosure of the Pentagon Papers demolished the credibility of McNamara and other top Johnson administration officials who indeed dragged America into the Vietnam War on false pretenses.

Condemnations of conspiracy theories became a hallmark of the Clinton administration. In 1995, President Bill Clinton claimed that people who believed government threatened their constitutional right were deranged ingrates: “If you say that Government is in a conspiracy to take your freedom away, you are just plain wrong…. How dare you call yourselves patriots and heroes!” The same year, the White House compiled a fevered 331-page report entitled “Communication Stream of Conspiracy Commerce,” attacking magazines, think tanks, and others that had criticized President Clinton. In the following years, many of the organizations condemned in the White House report were targeted for IRS audits, including the Heritage Foundation and the American Spectator magazine and almost a dozen individual high-profile Clinton accusers, including Paula Jones and Gennifer Flowers. Despite Clinton’s protestations that he posed no threat to freedom, even the ACLU admitted in 1998 that the Clinton administration had “engaged in surreptitious surveillance, such as wiretapping, on a far greater scale than ever before… The Administration is using scare tactics to acquire vast new powers to spy on all Americans.”

Afterword

JIM BOVARD'S FINAL POINT about the need for Americans to keep their B.S. radars on high alert is good advice, indeed. The efforts to manipulate our perceptions are ceaseless, and sometimes very subtle.

In today's world, such perception-controlling manipulations are far more dangerous than ever before. The mainstream media-- once consisting of many independent organizations in competition with each other and with chops to be earned by challenging and exposing the state-- is now entirely in the hands of large commercial enterprises which are all crony capitalists deeply invested in the state. The interest and focus of these organizations is now the shoring up of state power.

At the same time, the population is largely trained to rely on equally-compromised commercial "social media" sources for what purports to be "alternative" information and perspectives, but which are heavily controlled as to what information and views are permitted to appear.

THE FACT IS, in the dark times in which Americans now find themselves, institutional corruption is near-universal, and much of that corruption is devoted to keeping us from perceiving the rot and its threat to our liberty and our well-being. We are surrounded by conspiracies, with one of the most vigorous of the bunch being the conspiracy to conceal and protect from meaningful public attention and understanding all the others while their participants and beneficiaries loot the middle class and eviscerate our founding principles of individual sovereignty and the real rule of law.

The fact is, the state, erected originally to secure the rights of each of us against all invasions, has become the weapon used to accomplish such invasions. It is increasingly bent to the fastening in place of our permanent subjugation to the interests which have gained control of state power.

Efforts at reform and renewal of the state's proper role are proving fruitless. Indeed, at this point most Americans stand like deer in the headlights as their world is torn down around them, without a single coherent notion as to how to stop the destruction.

We are trained to rely on political parties, the press, and the mechanisms of the state itself as defenses against the assault we face. All are co-opted or hollowed-out, and all betray us.

NONETHELESS, AS GRIM as our circumstances have become, there IS a solution. It is the power of the state that is being used to destroy liberty. Drastically shrinking that power will amount to a hard slap on the "reset" button, by which the 800 lb. gorilla currently having its way with us all on behalf of its handlers resumes its original and intended stature as a helpful chimp-- healthy and fit for purpose, but small and incapable of broadly-harmful despotisms in the face of a necessarily more self-reliant and socially-cohesive citizenry.

Happily, the Founders prepared against the need for just such a "reset", knowing that all governments inevitably lurch toward the accretion of power unto themselves and the corruption which accompanies all accretions of state power. They put into place a solution ready to the hand of individual Americans, entirely bypassing all supervision or approval of the state.

The only requirements to implement that solution are eyes with which to see the problem, reasoning with which to recognize the truth and rightness of the solution, and courage, confidence and clarity of mind enough to pull the trigger in the face of the natural and predictable effort of the targeted rogue state to discourage doing so.
