It's Time To Celebrate More Victories

...over the pernicious influence and effect of legal and historical fictions by which the long-running and now dire statist assault on liberty and the rule of law has been facilitated. Plus, a few important words on "gender fluidity" and the Jackson SCOTUS nomination.

WE'RE IN A VERY DANGEROUS TIME right now. Those in possession of political power are allied with a newly-arisen group of private interests able to control the perceptions and discourse of a huge swath of the national population. This has never before been true in the way it is now.

In the past, media organs were vastly more diverse. Nearly everybody read a newspaper and many, if not most, newspapers were independent. Even in the mainstream media, journalists competed with each other in digging up challenges to the dominant perspective or narrative, especially if that narrative was that of any powerful institution or commercial interest, and most especially if that institution was the state or the interest had a political dimension.

Large businesses were less likely to be consolidated, and the atmosphere generated by their influence was less reflexively conformist and less able to be threatened and controlled by narrow-interest grievance industries. No one relied for their "news" and "facts" on addictive so-called social media in which public discourse and the popular picture of reality are "curated" and controlled with outright censorship on a massive scale.

A MAJOR COMPONENT in the destruction of America's liberal order has been the embedding of false notions about the nature of the income tax into public perception. These false notions about the tax engender and support false notions about the Constitutional relationship of citizen and state-- false notions which, conversely, are impossible to sustain when the tax is understood.

Not only is the fiction about the income tax a generator and sustainer of faulty and hugely harmful perceptions leading to a servile and helpless population, but its exploitation produces a river of wealth flowing from the citizenry into the hands of office-holders who use it to steadily eat away at everything that has made this country great.

Because of the overwhelming significance of the issue, those going to the trouble to learn the truth about the tax, and refusing to play along with the lies, are today's true American heroes. Much else competes for our attention these days, but I want to devote some time in this newsletter to celebrating recent victories by these upstanding and outstanding men and women.

Eddie & Kathryne Ann Yarbrough

THREE WEEKS AGO, Eddie and Kathryne Ann secured a complete refund, plus (apparently) interest, of what had been improperly withheld from them and given over to Uncle Sam against the possibility of their earnings during 2019 being subject to the income tax-- Social security tax, Medicare tax, and all. Notably, Eddie & Kathryne Ann had received a scary "frivolous return penalty" threat just five weeks or so prior to the issuance of this refund, to which they had responded in a sensible, well-educated manner (in regard to which see the material at this page).

Here is the filing by which this admission was secured-- but as is shown in that filing (and on the refund notice above), the actual amount withheld, to every penny of which Michael is entitled, is $74,116.00, not the $59,588.00 admitted by the IRS. Michael is being targeted with a scam occasionally deployed in the hope that the intended victim will be unfamiliar with the law and imagine that for some reason the tax agency gets to keep FICA withholdings even while admitting that nothing was done by which such liabilities can have arisen (as is more fully discussed here).

Michael will still have to go to some effort to be made completely whole in this matter. But with the admission of no taxable activity in hand, he's already off to a great start.

As seen in the filing related to this victory-in-progress, David and Valerie actually have $14,897.00 coming back to them, but the IRS is pretending that nothing was withheld from them in FICA taxes (or that somehow a liability for those taxes arose even while agreeing that no overall income tax liability arose). Like Michael Sullivan, David and Valerie will have to stay on the field with this one a bit longer, but also like Michael, they already have the key admission in their hands.

But I include it nonetheless, and am very happy to do so, because since their first victory in 2017, these two good folks have been in the trenches fighting the good fight against a really balky IRS.

The long wait has likely been because while also doing non-privileged work, Mike is a licensed federal firearms dealer, and that fact has somehow complicated the agency reaction to (or ability to understand) the couple's educated filings in the past. As will be seen in the refund notices below, that complication still hinders complete and proper satisfaction of Mike and Angi's claim. The acknowledged overpayment and refund for 2020-- made in response to this filing-- has been diverted toward liability allegations from previous years in which the IRS just couldn't or wouldn't "get it":

But the acknowledgement of the truth finally made now speaks volumes, and shows that the ice has cracked wide open in Mike and Angi's story. It couldn't have happened to more deserving people.

WHILE WE'RE ON the subject of billboards, here's a shot sent around recently by the excellent Dave Lonier, which, though not tax-truth-related, IS very much concerned with an important truth:

STAYING IN THAT SAME "gender fluidity" vein, and in a more serious tone, I want to share some comments about a virtuous effort by Tennessee senator Marsha Blackburn to defend reality against the leftist effort to corrupt it with gender-related fantasy.

During the confirmation hearings for Joe Biden's Supreme Court nominee, Ketanji Brown Jackson, Blackburn asked Jackson to define "woman". Jackson said she could not do so, and then repeated herself, adding that she is not a biologist.

Jackson's claimed inability was not, of course, because she doesn't know the definition (an adult human female). Rather, she recognized the question as a trap, meant to oblige her to contradict the "gender fluidity" lunacy embraced by those to whom she is beholden. Had she answered the question, every Democrat whose votes she needs would have felt him- or her-self on dangerous ground with constituents. Hence, the ludicrous, deceitful dodge.

AS I SAID, BLACKBURN'S QUESTION was virtuous. But she could and should have followed up for the kill, despite Jackson's evasion. Had Blackburn been better prepared, her next questions would have been,

"Judge Jackson, what do you think Congress has meant by the word woman when it has used it in the many places "woman" or "women" appear in statutes?"

...and/or,

"Judge Jackson, if you can't (or won't) define "woman", doesn't this mean that when you are dealing judicially with a statute in which the word "woman" or "women" is employed by Congress you simply assign it, whether consciously or unconsciously, whatever meaning suits you-- which is to say, whatever meaning supports your consciously or unconsciously preferred outcome?"

(I think the answer to the second of these follow-up questions is plain, and Jackson's confirmation proceedings should switch to an impeachment proceeding...)

OF COURSE BLACKBURN DIDN'T follow up with these questions, and from what I saw, neither did any one else. Ted Cruz did take a brief shot at picking the ball back up after Blackburn let it drop, but apparently without a clear notion of the real heart of the issue, which is a very simple and straightforward matter of respecting original intent versus legislating from the bench.

Not Letting This "Crisis" Go To Waste...

...an important action item opportunity.

FRIENDS, THE SPORADIC BITS OF EASING of the despotic measures to which most of the country has been subjected under the mantle of COVID-19 mitigation should not be allowed to bleed off the head of steam you probably had been developing. The offenses happened, and they're far from over. Stay hot.

And while you are all warmed up, and while others, if they're smart, are just as hot, I'd like you to send an email (and Facebook post, or whatever) with the following content to everyone you can (with a request that they pass it along, in turn):

[Name], since March of 2020 you've watched as over-fed state power has been used to literally destroy classical Western civilization and impose a new despotic paradigm. No dissent or debate permitted-- no permission or agreement sought.

YOU KNOW where this will end up if the arrogant state power being used to make this happen isn't radically diminished in size, influence, resources and popular support, and exposed as an opportunistic exploiter of legal ignorance (an ignorance which it has been nurturing in the average mind for decades).

Those things having not yet happened, you should be quaking in your boots-- and you probably are.

Isn't it time-- and past time-- for you to begin helping to make those desperately-needed defensive changes take place? There is only one way these things can happen short of a who-knows-what we'll-end-up-with explosion of violence. I'm going to show it to you.

FOR ALL THE YEARS SINCE 2003 when CtC was first published, the government has engaged in a concerted effort to frighten people away from its truths. This effort involves official government websites and press releases touting an occasional court ruling that appears to be at odds with some CtC-revelation (but without details sufficient to expose the real substance of the ruling)-- and sometimes even more mendacious behavior.

Are You Having Trouble Spreading The Word?

SKEPTICISM (SOMETIMES INVOKED BY FEAR) IS TO BE EXPECTED when you're trying to explain to someone that everything they've been encouraged their whole lives to believe about something as entrenched and significant as the income tax is basically nonsense. So here's a way to help cut through the resistance:

Ask your listener how he or she would react if you were to show an announcement from the Commissioner of Internal Revenue admitting that the tax doesn't apply to the earnings of most Americans and is misapplied most of the time because people don't understand how it works? Or how about if you showed a ruling from the Supreme Court saying the same?

Now you just have to explain that you're going to show exactly those things-- but because the state really doesn't want people to know this, these things haven't been said quite as forthrightly as we would all wish. It's going to take a bit more work to take these admissions in than is sufficient for just reading a press release. But it'll be worth the effort...

The US Press Again Becomes A Conduit For Pro-War Propaganda.

American journalists have a long, ignoble history of being willing conduits for pro-war propaganda. Usually, that behavior is in service to a military crusade that Washington has launched or wants to initiate. At times, though, such a betrayal of journalistic integrity occurs on behalf of a foreign country that both U.S. political leaders and news media elites have adopted as a favorite cause. We are currently witnessing the latter phenomenon with respect to news coverage of the Russia-Ukraine war.

The dominant media narrative is that the US government (and all Americans) must "stand with Ukraine" in the latter's resistance to Russian aggression. The identification with Ukraine's cause is now nearly total, and it is infused with arrogant righteousness. Noticeably missing is any sense, once so powerful in US foreign policy and general discourse, that America's interests often are-- and should be-- distinct from the interests and objectives of any foreign country.

The emotionalism and shallowness is most evident with the television coverage of the conflict. American viewers are inundated with images of exploding shells from the invading Russian forces, sights of desperate, tearful refugees (mostly women and children) fleeing the invaders, and shots of other determined Ukrainian civilians arming themselves to defend their country. Television is a visual medium that always tries to evoke emotions among viewers, but that element has become truly over-the-top regarding treatment of the Ukraine war. Providing a deluge of images showing traumatized civilian refugees adds little to anyone's understanding of the roots of the conflict, its underlying issues, or its likely outcome.

Indeed, prominent media outlets have been guilty of circulating transparently crude Ukrainian propaganda. Some of the material they've telecast turned out to be fake. A widely circulated image of a Ukrainian girl verbally confronting Russian troops actually was that of a Palestinian girl confronting Israeli troops. 2015's Miss Ukraine was not taking up arms against the Russian invaders, despite a well-covered photo op. A closer examination of the image showed that she was brandishing an Airsoft gun. Some images of aerial combat footage of Ukrainian pilots battling Russian aggressors were from video games.

There also has been an array of more subtle, but decidedly deceptive, accounts that US press outlets distributed. The supposed martyrs of Snake Island, who allegedly were blown to smithereens after defying and cursing a Russian warship, turned out to be very much alive. The American news media dutifully reported a Ukrainian military account in early March that it had severely damaged, if not sunk, the Russian patrol ship Vasiliy Bykov in the Black Sea. The episode was supposedly a major victory, because the vessel was one of Russia's newest warships. The credibility of Kyiv's claim took a major hit on March 16, though, when the Vasily Bykov sailed, apparently unharmed, into the port of Sevastopol in Crimea.

In light of such problems with accounts regarding the war, American journalists should at least be cautious about reflexively repeating Ukrainian government allegations. For example, Kyiv has repeatedly asserted that Russian forces deliberately target residential areas in their shelling campaigns, and the US media echo those claims. Perhaps the allegations are true, but the generally accepted figures with respect to Ukrainian civilian fatalities (726, as of March 17) do not seem consistent with wholly indiscriminate assaults. Journalists should at least view Kyiv's accusations with some skepticism, yet there is scant evidence of meaningful scrutiny.

IT IS ASTONISHING how seamless was the pivot of the monolithic MSM/officialdom narrative chorus from 24/7 COVID propaganda to 24/7 Ukraine: pure as the driven snow victim/Russia: blackhearted, wholly-unprovoked Hitlerian aggressor. Lockstep in talking points of total bs on the former subject has become lockstep in talking points of total bs on the latter, with no ramp-up time required.

Nothing could more clearly illustrate and emphasize the fact that these outlets, both in the government and in the media, get scripts and marching orders from the same source, and all simply do what they're told. If dissenting or skeptical or even merely cautious voices are to be found within any of them, no such voice is permitted air-time.

Nothing could more clearly illustrate and emphasize the fact that what these outlets are saying is false. The truth is never a plain matter of black and white; and no two observers of events see them exactly the same. When something is presented in Manichean terms, it is falsely presented; and when multiple alleged observers of events appear to see them through the same eyes, they are parroting someone else's message and simply pretending it is their own.

In the case of the events in Ukraine, the false messages seem plainly designed to distract America while resistance to distortions of the rule of law in the name of COVID mitigation loses steam and we all acclimate to the new (drastically-worse) normal, and to ramp us up to tolerance for another large-scale uptick in power and wealth for the deep state, spin-control on the matter of US bio-weapon research and development in Ukraine, and the push into the memory-hole of corruption played out in Ukraine by Joe Biden and members of his family, and others in power and influence during the Obama administration.

A side interest is the perpetuation of deeply-mistaken notions about Russia and Vladimir Putin manufactured by the Hillary Clinton campaign and others for the furtherance of various political purposes.

AMERICANS SHOULDN'T HAVE TO worry about separating truth from lies out of the mouths of government officials and their coopted media flacks and hacks. Certainly we shouldn't have to push our way through a din of propaganda and deal with its pernicious influence on those vulnerable to its blandishments and incitements, and the political ramifications thereof.

And we don't have to do so.

There will, of course, always be hysteria-prone people. And the well-practiced operatives of the state will always think up new hob-goblins by which hysteria can be invoked, exploited and manipulated. But we have the power to shrink the propaganda machine down to relative harmlessness, as long as we act NOW, while liberty and the real rule of law in this country still has a heartbeat.

You see, the Founders and Framers thought this one through...

Those wise and well-educated men-- knowing, as they did, that all governments inevitably lurch toward the accretion of power unto themselves and the corruption which accompanies all accretions of state power-- pre-emptively put into place a solution. That solution is baked into the Constitutional cake and ready to the hand of individual Americans, entirely bypassing all supervision or approval of any official.
