A Couple Of Notable New Victories...

...with which I am pleased to begin this newsletter after my extended hiatus.

THE FIRST VICTORY I am pleased to share today is notable for being the debut refund secured for 2023 (or, at least, the first one shared with me for sharing with you, anyway). John & Mercy Polhemus got busy filing their educated return in February, and two weeks later received back everything withheld from them under the income tax laws and given over to the state of Maine last year:

OUR SECOND NOTABLE VICTORY THIS WEEK is the complete return of what had been withheld from Jacques & Peggy Boudin during 2021, along with what Jacques & Peggy had paid in that year in estimated tax payments and with their request for an extension in 2022, plus interest. All of this was by way of an amended return which was briefly resisted and then, after some no-nonsense prompting, honored in full.

In fact, Jacques & Peggy's claim was more than honored, since after Jacques & Peggy's remonstrance of the agency's balkiness, the IRS corrected-- in Jacques & Peggy's favor-- a $10,000 error the couple had made in totaling up all those amounts when making their claim.

First, let's enjoy Jacques & Peggy's nice refund:

NOW, AS NOTED ABOVE, this victory has a few quirks to discuss-- all of which are good!

To begin with, the first IRS response to Jacques & Peggy's filing (on March 1, 2024) was to say, "Thanks for your amended return; we've adjusted your account as requested; the adjustment changes nothing." Here is how this strange self-serving gibberish was put:

 Jacques & Peggy wasted no time responding calmly and confidently, if with a bit of perfectly reasonable tartness:

The IRS response to this March 9, 2024 letter was to issue, a week later, the interest-bolstered check you see above. But that's not all.

The chastened tax agency, apparently recognizing that it was dealing with serious, well-educated and resolute American grown-ups, took an extra step (even if only one which was ethically proper in any case). You see, Jacques & Peggy, though doing everything right overall, and clearly in command of the situation, made a simple math error in their filing. As seen in the computation of amounts paid/withheld and refund claimed on their return, shown here:

...the "total payments" figure on line 17 failed to include $10,000, being added up and reported as $49,955 instead of the correct figure of $59,955-- a forgivable mistake anyone could make while completing a form many find fairly confusing in its layout, and which was probably the first 1040X Jacques & Peggy have ever filled out. This mistake also manifests in the recital of the facts these good folks made in their reply to the IRS's initial dodgy letter.

Not to worry, though. The now law-abiding tax agency stepped up right and proper, and corrected Jacques & Peggy's mistake, adding in the missing $10,000 to the amount claimed by the couple and including it in the refund check-- a happy fact which sharply emphasizes the close attention paid to the details of Jacques & Peggy's claim before that claim was plainly acknowledged as soundly-based in the law and the facts and honored in full.

WELL DONE, Jacques & Peggy (and WELL DONE, IRS)!!

The Dangerous Craziness Continues...

...and so I must continue my comments thereon, here on "green new deal" mandates, the open southern border, the introduction of ESG-scoring on an individual level, and more.

In no particular order of significance or otherwise:

LATELY THE SUBJECTS OF EVs, new, more restrictive CAFE rules, and the sale of gas appliances have been in the news, as the "green new deal" enemies of liberty and prosperity slouch ever deeper into the heart of Western Civilization with murder on their minds. Accordingly, I feel the need to remind everyone that just about exactly one year ago, I posted a pretty definitive debunk of the "General Welfare Clause" fiction on which the pretense of government authority for all such decrees is based.

That debunk can be found here, and it really should be studied and shared widely, as it had not been back then. Though reluctantly, I have to remind all of you who receive these newsletters that you are relied upon to be the amplifiers of the information I post on these pages, and I urge you all to take this responsibility seriously.

My work is not at all just about taxes (see here for a sampler of other subjects parsed out, analyzed and advised-upon on LHC and in my books), and by no means should the other issues addressed be taken less seriously. They all matter just as much-- and indeed, knowledgeable drill-downs on such other subjects support in important ways the security of those acting on the income tax revelations in CtC.

THE INVASION BY WAY OF THE OPEN SOUTHERN BORDER continues apace, with every "debate" or hand-wringing presser serving to keep good Americans sitting on their hands while the politics on the ground shifts steadily toward an irreversible disaster-- as is intended by the Biden regime. To paraphrase a saying apocryphally attributed to Winston Churchill, there is too much "jaw, jaw" and not enough "war, war" on this issue, concerning huge numbers of people with no cultural or traditional fidelity or respect for (or even understanding of) limited government being brought amongst us.

Texas has been stepping up a bit, and that's good, but even what Texas is doing is too tentative and too little. This egg-walking is vividly illustrated with the over-running of the Texas National Guard contingent by a horde of border jumpers a couple of weeks ago. Why didn't the guardsmen open fire on these criminals as they attacked?

At a minimum, why don't these guard units and others on site to stop the invasion each have a bunch of canine units, and at least rubber bullet magazines (along with the real ones as back-ups) for first-level deterrence when things heat up?

At Kent State a number of years ago (anniversary next month, as it happens), National Guard units live-fired on American students engaged in peaceful protests. They should not have, but how is it that they now can't bring themselves to do at least as much when faced with a horde of actual criminals (and foreigner invaders) actually attacking them?

(And as only a minor degree of an aside, how is it that my recommendation for stocking the Rio Grande with Australian river crocodiles has been continuing to be ignored, even as the border issue has caught fire with the American electorate? Those interested can find that article re-posted here as a follow-up to an important piece of about 18 months ago explaining why pretty-much ALL of the border invaders ARE criminals.)

See this article for a robust argument against liberal immigration policies generally (and the linked article at its end debunking so-called 14th Amendment "birthright citizenship" nonsense-- which, by the way also makes clear that Kamala Harris is ineligible for the presidency, or even her current office, as detailed here).

THIS ONE WILL DATE ME, and cause mindless hackle-rising among some readers, but can't it be said that it is a positive good for society that half its members-- particularly the naturally-nurturing half, both by biology and psychology-- be encouraged and honored culturally for qualities such as chastity, gentleness, selflessness, delicacy and decorum? I think these qualities are needed in society to counterbalance equally-necessary rougher traits more naturally (and properly) found in the other half.

Much to the harm of our current American society, aggressive self-absorbed radical feminism has striven mightily for a few generations now to eliminate those gentler traits from our women. As a result, we are a coarser-- indeed, a more unpleasant and even more dangerous-- society.

When I was young, men in any establishment into which a woman entered-- even one of a generally less-than-genteel demeanor-- would clean up their language and other behavior instantly, like the throwing of a switch. Indeed, the process of raising up and acculturating a young man included instilling that reflex, and at least a gut-level understanding of why it was expected and important.

This reflex was protective, as in putting women in the lifeboats before men. But it was not patronizing.

The reflex was, rather, respectful, in recognition that the traits embodied by ladies (real ladies) were expressions of high-order values to which civilized people aspire.

I'M AFRAID THESE WORDS ARE MORE A LAMENT than the preamble to a prescription. I don't know how to fix this slide into barbarism, save perhaps for only one thing: homeschool your children!!

Do everything you can to get others to do so, as well.

It is in the schools that destructive Marxist ideologies like radical feminism are instilled into children, never to be erased. Keeping the children out of those schools is the only prophylactic available.

This cure will be a slow one, but it is the only one, I think.

FINALLY, I HEARD A REPORT TODAY that some large companies able to mess with people's lives if left free to do so are now ranking (and burdening or denying) customers and applicants (to be a customer or a position-holder with the company) on their personal "environmental, social and governance" (ESG) scores. That is, how the known or discoverable views and behaviors of a customer or applicant rank in acceptable "wokeness" in regard to ESG issues dictate how that person is treated.

Meet the approval of the company in one's views and behaviors, and get treated properly (which is to say, the way everyone got treated by a company in the past...). Score poorly and be denied a job, or a loan, or an account, or service generally, or get the substandard version of these things, at most.

This make-any-sensible-person's-skin-crawl practice has been having a run in business-to-business relations for a while now, imposed chiefly by over-sized fund management outfits like Blackrock and Vanguard on other businesses in which they invest (or don't). That's been bad enough, but now this infection appears to have gotten much, much worse.

Happily, as with so many other things, I have already posted the solution to this problem. All that is needed is for those who care-- hopefully, you-- to spread the news to others in a vigorous and diligent manner.

Not Letting This "Crisis" Go To Waste...

...an important action item opportunity.

FRIENDS, THE SPORADIC EASINGS of the despotic measures to which most of the country has been subjected under since the onset of the COVID-19 hobgoblin narrative should not be allowed to bleed off the head of steam you probably had been developing. The offenses happened, and they're far from over. Stay hot.

And while you are all warmed up, and while others, if they're smart, are just as hot, I'd like you to send an email (and Facebook post, or whatever) with the following content to everyone you can (with a request that they pass it along, in turn):

[Name], since March of 2020 you've watched as over-fed state power has been used to literally destroy classical Western civilization and impose a new despotic paradigm. No dissent or debate permitted-- no permission or agreement sought.

YOU KNOW where this will end up if the arrogant state power being used to make this happen isn't radically diminished in size, influence, resources and popular support, and exposed as an opportunistic exploiter of legal ignorance (an ignorance which it has been nurturing in the average mind for decades).

Those things having not yet happened, you should be quaking in your boots-- and you probably are.

Isn't it time-- and past time-- for you to begin helping to make those desperately-needed defensive changes take place? There is only one way these things can happen short of a who-knows-what we'll-end-up-with explosion of violence. I'm going to show it to you.

This effort involves official government websites and press releases touting an occasional court ruling that appears to be at odds with some CtC-revelation (but without details sufficient to expose the real substance of the ruling)-- and sometimes even more mendacious behavior.

Are You Having Trouble Spreading The Word?

SKEPTICISM (SOMETIMES INVOKED BY FEAR) IS TO BE EXPECTED when you're trying to explain to someone that everything they've been encouraged their whole lives to believe about something as entrenched and significant as the income tax is basically nonsense. So here's a way to help cut through the resistance:

Ask your listener how he or she would react if you were to show an announcement from the Commissioner of Internal Revenue admitting that the tax doesn't apply to the earnings of most Americans and is misapplied most of the time because people don't understand how it works? Or how about if you showed a ruling from the Supreme Court saying the same?

Now you just have to explain that you're going to show exactly those things-- but because the state really doesn't want people to know this, these things haven't been said quite as forthrightly as we would all wish. It's going to take a bit more work to take these admissions in than is sufficient for just reading a press release. But it'll be worth the effort...

LET ME FIRST SAY that I dearly hope everyone has subscribed to Andrew Napolitano's video channel, or will now do so. Everyone should watch at least several of his presentations every week. Not all guests are equally compelling, but most are worthwhile each time they appear; you'll soon identify those you particularly want to catch.

Sometimes (often, in fact) the discussions are a bit repetitive, as Napolitano ends up with a list of questions and issues based on current events which he poses to each guest in turn, but each of those guests brings a unique background or source arsenal to bear on each question or issue, making the repetition inevitably encountered pretty tolerable (and you can always choose to pass on any given video, of which there will be something on the order of 10 - 15 each week).

The great virtue of Napolitano's work is that he has a stable of actual adult guest commentators, all chosen not only for their unique expertise on the subjects at hand (primarily foreign policy matters), but also for being unwedded to any agenda and hence, honest and genuinely informative. These folks powerfully counter and correct the managed narrative bs endlessly spewing from Washington and the presstitute ranks. Plus, Napolitano himself has proven to have a sharp mind, a strong and well-tuned moral compass, a properly libertarian perspective, and a gifted knack for doing a good interview.

If lots and lots of Americans watched Napolitano's videos every week, this country would quickly have a sound and virtuous foreign policy, which would also mean a much healthier demeanor with regard to domestic issues as well.

OK, ENOUGH OF EXTOLLING the virtues of Judge Nap and company. With regard to the matters discussed in the video above, I have already held forth in considerable detail. Find my analyses of the situation in Palestine and the illegal arming of Israel here (and at pages linked from within that post). Regarding Ukraine, see this.

Stepping back for a larger view, let me make the point that that the ultimate underpinning of the bad behavior by the US deep state and assorted other swamp creatures in both the examples mentioned above, and countless others, lies in the exploitation of the ignorance tax*. Ending that exploitation by educating the American public is the solution to all of it.

After all, the proper American attitude toward the state-- not just as regards foreign policy but in all respects-- should be 1. skeptical tolerance under a watchful eye, and 2. a very deliberate keeping of the thing on lean rations, unable to ever grow to dangerous size-- which includes being able to feed itself.

The Founders set things up with that skeptical, jealous regard, and left baked into the Constitutional cake all the tools by which individual Americans can enforce that "lean rations" part.

The simplest and most peaceable of those tools is the power provided to each individual American to restrict, within the law, the resources he or she provides to the co-opted state with which it would otherwise grow like Topsy and escape its proper limits. This requires nothing more than a little education and a little courage, as is explained here.

Read that material, and then become an agent of change. Urge everyone you know to do both of these things, as well.

Seriously, people. It's time to stop whistling past the graveyard.
